TATSUZO SHIMAOKA DINNER PLATE W/ FABULOUS COMPLEX JAMON ZOGAN PATTERN W/ BOX (1)

Description

For your consideration is a FABULOUS DINNER PLATE BY TATSUZO SHIMAOKA (1911 - 2007).  It has a very complex pattern with multiple Jamon Zogan rope impressed patterns which, in this example, I refer to as Honeycomb around the rim in a cream/ brown color and a blueish background pattern in a Perpetual Diagonal pattern in the center well area.  Superimposed over the blue field are 3 Medallions depicting a frequently used design by Shimaoka that may represent grass blowing in the wind (my interpretation). This plate was originally purchased in 1983 directly from Shimaoka at his studio by Tracy Whiteside, a potter visiting Japan.  There are no chips or cracks.  It is signed with his later cypher that has a curved tail.
