While the exact origins of this dog are uncertain, it is thought that one of its ancestors was bread in Tibet as a cross between the Pekingese and the Lhasa Apso. This dog was given to multiple Chinese emperors as a gift from the Dalai Lama. As the breed continued to develop in China, it was given its name, which means “lion.” The Shih Tzu is a friendly breed and enjoys companionship. They are also not shy of strangers, and will get along well with other dogs and with children.
