Description

This nearly life sized WIRE FOX TERRIER ceramic sculpture has a sweet natural expression, soulful liquid BLACKGLASS EYES and a beautifully  modeled coat of black and  bright white glazes.
She was made  in France in the 1920s or 1930s when Wire Fox Terriers were favored and fashionable pets of the sophisticated  Art Deco Period  woman and inspired designer items ranging from jewelry to home decor.
This stoneware sculpture is realistic in modeling and size:  14 1/2 inches tall by 18 inches wide by 9 inches deep.   Deep, rich and shimmering black and white glazes define her coat, black glass eyes peek out of nicely shaped and lined eyes.  Painted mouth and nose finish her muzzle.   Dark front-folded ears accent the regal  head.
She is in good condition, commensurate with vintage age- almost 100 years!   Edges of her ears have a few flakes and on her back (see photo) some  green glaze  dripped onto her white coat in the pottery factory...  Glazes can get turn out differently than expected in the firing or the streak  may have been a whim of the artist.
She  is  signed on belly in worn black paint:   FRANCE.
Hefty and sweet - she weighs over 10 pounds.   She was purchased together with the standing Fox Terrier which I also have listed. They've been a "bonded pair" for over 30  years so you may consider buying both.   Photo  shows them together, nicely matched in size and style.
